Pollard ton in vain as India win by 34 runs--Pollard Maiden Century with 10 Sixes

Chennai: Kieron Pollard smashed his maiden one-day international century, but could not prevent West Indies from losing by 34 runs in the fifth and final match in Chennai. A win mean that India won the five-match series 4-1.
It's not often Pollard will hit a century and finish on the losing side, but that's exactly what happened on Sunday, as his 10 sixes and 119 went in vain. He was last man out in his bid to clear the long-off boundary where Ajinkya Rahane took a smart catch off Suresh Raina's bowling. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he finished with the figures of 3 for 62.
Needing 268 to win, the visitors got off to a worst possible starts as comeback man Irfan Pathan and Abhimanyu Mithun blew away the top four with only 36 runs on the board. Jadeja then removed Denesh Ramdin with the score at 78 for 5, but Pollard and allrounder Andre Russell (53) launched a furious counter-attack adding 89 in only 79 deliveries. A terrible mix-up saw Russell short of his crease to be run-out.
Jadeja struck again to dismiss captain Darren Sammy (3). While wickets kept falling, Pollard kept the scorecard ticking with some lusty blows as he reached his century. He finally departed for 119 as the curtains came down on the West Indies innings for the final time in this series.
Earlier, Manoj Tiwary's maiden ODI hundred saw India to a solid score of 267 for 6. On a slow track, West Indies were guilty of letting the game slip after a terrific start that saw Kemar Roach reduce India to 1 for 2, as Tiwary guided the hosts to a highly competitive total.
West Indies made the perfect start when Roach removed Rahane and Parthiv Patel for first-ball ducks in the first over of the match, but an 83-run partnership between Gautam Gambhir (31) and Tiwary put India back on track. Tiwary then set about taking the game away from the opposition as he ploughed through his second fifty in a 117-run partnership with Virat Kohli.
Although Tiwary was forced to limp off one single later as he gave in to the cramps which had dogged him in the latter part of his innings, Kohli went to 80 from 85 balls before finally picking out long-on. The final overs were not as profitable as India would have liked - they scored just 53 runs in the last 10.
The hosts rested Virender Sehwag, handing the captaincy to Gambhir. Ravichandran Ashwin fell out of the XI and Rahane and Irfan, returning to international cricket after a two-year absence. The Windies, meanwhile, rested Ravi Rampaul and Danza Hyatt. Anthony Martin replaced Rampaul, while Jason Mohammed was afforded a debut.

Sehwag's 219 Runs; Fastest Double Century and Highest ODI Score

Sehwag 219 Runs; Fastest 200 and Highest ODI Score

Indore: At 5.42pm on Thursday evening, in front of a 40,000-strong crowd at the Holkar Stadium, with a perfectly-placed cut backward of point, Virender Sehwag became only the second batsman in one-day international history to score a double-century in an innings. His phenomenal achievement came in the 3223rd ODI to be played, and came 260 matches after Sachin Tendulkar touched the 200-mark against South Africa in Gwalior on February 24, 2010.
Sehwag - who came into the fourth ODI of the series against West Indies with scores of 22, 26 and 0 in the three previous games - needed 140 deliveries to reach the landmark. His mood from the start of the match, having won the toss and opted to bat, was belligerent and Sehwag never took his foot off the pedal. His fifty came up in 41 balls with a six in the 15th over - his fourth of the innings – and he sped to a 15th ODI century in 69 balls. Sehwag proceeded to cruise past 150 in 112 balls and showed no signs of tiredness.

On 170, he offered a catch to the deep but West Indies captain Darren Sammy dropped an easy catch. That was just the lifeline Sehwag need to reassess the situation; a slew of boundaries and coolly-collected singles took him past 190, and a flick off a rank full toss from Kieron Pollard eased him to 195, in the process raising 8,000 career runs.
Two singles in two balls followed, before Sehwag sent the packed house into raptures by cutting the third ball of the 43rd over, bowled by Andre Russell, to the deep backward point boundary for his 23rd boundary to reach his double-century. Immediately he set off down the pitch in animated celebrations as his India team-mates and the fans stood as one to cheer on a most enthralling century.

2011 ICC Cricket World Cup

The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup was the tenthCricket World Cup. It was played in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. It was Bangladesh's first time co-hosting a World Cup. The World Cup was also due to be co-hosted by Pakistan, but in the wake of the 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka national cricket team in Lahore, the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to remove Pakistan from the hosting countries. The headquarters of the organising committee were originally situated in Lahore, but have now been shifted to Mumbai. Pakistan was supposed to hold 14 matches, including one semi-final.Eight of Pakistan's matches (including the semi-final) were awarded to India, four to Sri Lanka and two to Bangladesh.
All matches in the World Cup were accordedOne Day International status, with all matches being played over 50 overs. Fourteen national cricket teams competed in the tournament, including ten full members and four associate members. The World Cup took place between 19 February and 2 April 2011, with the first match played on 19 February 2011 with co-hostsIndia and Bangladesh facing off at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in MirpurDhaka. The opening ceremony was held on 17 February 2011 at Bangabandhu National StadiumDhaka, two days before the start of the tournament, with the final on 2 April 2011 between India and Sri Lanka at Wankhede StadiumMumbai.
India won the tournament defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the final in Mumbai. India became the first nation to win a World Cup final on home soil. India's Yuvraj Singh was declared the man of the tournament.

Format

Late in 2007, the four host nations agreed upon a revised format for the 2011 World Cup identical to the 1996 World Cup, the only change being the number of teams: it was 12 in 1996 and 14 in 2011. The first round of the tournament will be a round-robin in which the 14 teams are divided into two groups of 7 teams each. The 7 teams play each other once with the top 4 from each group qualifying for the quarter-finals.[16] The format ensures that each team gets to play a minimum of 6 matches even if they are ruled out of the tournament due to early defeats.
Mascot
Stumpy, a young elephant, is the official mascot for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He was unveiled at a function in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Friday, 2 April 2010. The official name of the mascot was released on Monday, 2 August 2010 after an online competition conducted by the International Cricket Council in the last week of July, 2010.

Opening ceremony

The Opening Ceremony was held in Bangladesh. The venue for the opening ceremony wasBangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The event took place on 17 February 2011, 2 days prior to the first match of the World Cup.

Prize money

The 2011 Cricket World Cup winning team would be taking home a prize money of US$ 3 million and US$ 1.5 million for runner-up, with the International Cricket Council deciding to double the total allocation for the coveted tournament to US$ 10 million. The winning team will also take home a replica of the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy, that has been awarded since 1999. The decision was taken at the ICC Board meeting which was held in Dubai on 20 April 2010.The total prize money on offer for the tournament for the teams placing from 1st to 8th is US$7.48 million. The remaining two semi-finalists will receive 0.75 million US$ each. The last four quarter-finalists will each receive 0.37 million US$.

Cricket schedule 2011

Which country plays where, when and what matches is the topic of following, formally called as cricket schedule, for year 2011..

The 10th ODI World cup in February & March is the only multi country tournament this year with no World T20 or champions trophy or asia cup but we do have some very high profile head to heads like India tour of England in July (and return series in October) as well as India's tour of Australia in December and Australia's tour of South Africa (the new arch rivals). Pakistan played 3 tests in New Zealand last year but that was their own series hosted abroad and this time Pak actually tours New Zealand.

Sri Lanka, traditionally bad tourists, have tough times ahead with series in England and South Africa while Australia play in Bangladesh only for the second time. West Indies play a test series in India for the first time since 2002.

Note that date wise fixtures of each tour or tournament will be added as they are announced by respective boards. Also, few more cricket series may be added just a month in advance which will be updated in following table later on.
